The apple tree that Garner Rix planted for his wife, Betsey, just fell down. He had planted it across the road from the house he built for her in 1798. The apple tree blossomed each spring and produced an abundance of apples to be eaten crisp and ripe in the fall, dried and cooked into pies in the winter and pressed into cider and later applejack throughout the year.
It was sad to see that old apple tree fall. Its limbs were large and thick and the trunk was knotted with age.
It’s time to plant a new apple tree for Garner and Betsey Rix’s descendants to see the beauty of the apple blossoms and taste the crisp and ripe fruit in the fall.

That’s sad to see a heritage tree gone. Sounds like a great idea to plant a new one in their memory.

Thank you so much for the suggestion. I hope to plant a new apple tree in their memory next spring.
